The receipt didn't parse correctly. What now?+
AI vision is around 99% accurate but not perfect — handwritten receipts, faded thermal paper, and angled photos can throw it off. You can edit any line on the Review screen: tap the item name to rename, tap the price to fix it, or swipe to delete a row. The totals recalculate automatically.
If the parse fails entirely, PayMyCut falls back to a sample receipt and shows a small banner explaining why. Tap “Try again” with a clearer photo (flat surface, good lighting, the whole receipt in frame).
How does the math handle tax and tip?+
Tax and tip are split proportionally to each person's subtotal — not divided evenly. If you ordered the $14 soup and your friend ordered the $90 steak, your share of the tip reflects that ratio. The soup-and-water person never gets overcharged.
What about shared items — appetizers, pitchers, comped drinks?+
Tap any item on the Tag screen to flip it between “dish” and “shared.” Shared items split evenly across everyone at the table. Comped (zero-dollar) items are detected automatically and skipped.
Why does PayMyCut need camera access?+
To take a photo of the receipt — that's the entire input. We never access your photo library, contacts, or microphone. If you deny camera permission, the app falls back to the sample receipt so you can still see the flow.
Does PayMyCut take my money?+
No. PayMyCut never holds funds. Once the split is calculated, we generate a deeplink straight into Venmo, Cash App, or PayPal — pre-filled with the exact amount and a memo. Money moves directly between you and your friends, the same as if you sent it manually.
How do I delete my account and all my data?+
In the app, go to Settings → Delete my account & data. Deletion is permanent: your saved splits, sign-in records, anonymous identity, and quota counters are removed locally immediately and from our cloud within 24 hours.
Prefer to do it by email? Send a deletion request to [email protected] from the address you signed up with. We respond within 30 days (usually within 24 hours).
How do I export my receipt history?+
In the app, go to Settings → Your Data → Export my data. You'll get a JSON snapshot of every saved split, copyable to clipboard or shareable via the system share sheet. Pro users can also export per-receipt PDFs.
Is Pro a subscription? How do I manage it?+
No — Pro is a one-time $7.99 purchase, not a subscription. There's nothing to cancel and nothing auto-renews. If you get a new phone or reinstall, tap Settings → Restore purchases to get Pro back at no charge.
Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies. We don't process direct refunds, but if something went wrong on our end, email us and we'll help you get one.
Is there a limit on the free tier?+
Splits are unlimited and free. To keep AI parsing affordable we apply a generous daily receipt-scan limit (it resets at midnight) — you'll rarely hit it. Free keeps your last 5 splits in history; Pro ($7.99 once) adds unlimited history, cloud sync across devices, trips, currency conversion, and saved groups.
My receipt won't scan at all.+
Quick checklist:
- Lay the receipt flat on a contrasting surface (dark table, light receipt).
- Make sure the entire receipt is in frame, including the totals at the bottom.
- Avoid glare from overhead lights — tilt slightly to kill the reflection.
- Hold the phone steady; let autofocus settle before tapping capture.
- If your screen receipt is too long, screenshot it in sections and use one for the parse.
